...as thousands participate in a fitness and awareness campaign in Lagos
WhyteCleon LimitedA prominent HR consulting and outsourcing company organized the Cleon Health Walk 2025, a significant fitness and health awareness initiative designed to address the increasing prevalence of diabetes and hypertension among Nigerians.
The gathering included complimentary health screenings, a wellness seminar, exercise classes, and a neighborhood fitness walk that attracted a strong attendance.
At the event, the company's General Manager (Operations), Mr. Yakubu Wuyep, stated that the program was created not only to support healthy living but also to enhance unity, boost employee involvement, and increase awareness of preventable health issues.
We hope to accomplish a wide range of objectives through this single event," Wuyep stated. "Our goal is to foster unity, encourage networking, and most importantly, raise public awareness about the current health challenges. This year, based on the medical records of our staff, diabetes and high blood pressure have been identified as prevalent conditions. We want individuals to lead healthy lifestyles so these issues don't catch them off guard.
He stated that diabetes and high blood pressure were chosen for the initiative because of their increasing prevalence within the company's employees.
"Several of our individuals have been going to hospitals, and the outcomes consistently indicated these two health issues. Therefore, we believed it was important to raise awareness, encouraging people to pay attention to their diet and adopt a conscious approach to maintaining good health," he stated.
Over 2,000 attendees, such as employees, collaborators, and associates of the organization, joined the awareness initiative.
Upon arrival, attendees were provided with complimentary blood pressure and blood glucose screenings prior to participating in the exercise sessions. The event also included a health lecture delivered by medical professional Dr. Kolade Faleke, who highlighted the risks of a sedentary lifestyle and the rising incidence of hypertension and diabetes in Nigeria.
“Hypertension is very common in Nigeria,” said Dr. Faleke. “A major reason is a lack of physical activity. Many people spend extended periods at work with minimal exercise. Research has demonstrated that physical activity can help control and manage both hypertension and diabetes. This walk is a positive beginning, but the essential thing is to incorporate exercise into a long-term lifestyle.”
The wellness stroll began at 10:29 a.m. departing from Bendel Close, proceeding along Bishop Aboyade Street to Adetokunbo Ademola Street, Akin Adesola Street, Muri Okunola Park, Adeola Hopewell Street, Akinogun Savage Street, and returning to Adetokunbo Ademola to conclude back at Bendel Close by 11:42 a.m.
Security was entirely organized, with assistance from LASTMA and the Nigeria Police Force, guaranteeing crowd management, smooth flow, and safety during the walk.
Cleon Health Walk is a twice-yearly program, and as Wuyep mentioned, this year represents the third installment in the current two-year cycle. Whyte Cleon has been organizing the event since 2015, reinforcing the company's dedication to corporate health and staff involvement.
We want individuals to connect, build relationships, and understand that the company genuinely cares about them," Wuyep said. "This is also an initiative for employee involvement. Following today's event, we hope people become more aware of nutritious eating, consistent physical activity, and overall wellness.
Wuyep also urged team members who were unable to attend to make a sincere effort to join in subsequent events.
There will always be some who are unable to participate, but our recommendation is that they sign up next time to experience the core of the program.
