But it seems you may have been using your deodorant incorrectly all along.

Professionals from the International Hyperhidrosis Society have identified the optimal time to use your deodorant.

On the contrary, it's not the first thing at dawn.

Rather, specialists recommend applying antiperspirants in the evening, right before retiring for the night.

"For optimal results, apply your antiperspirant at night," the group recommended.

Sweating is minimal during the night.

Nighttime application allows the active components in antiperspirants to penetrate your pores during the night, helping to prevent sweating when you start moving again in the morning.

Although many people use the words together, deodorants and antiperspirants are actually different products.

"Antiperspirants, unlike deodorants, include aluminum-containing substances that briefly close sweat glands, thus minimizing the amount of sweat that comes to your skin," stated the International Hyperhidrosis Society.

On the other hand, deodorants can help reduce odor but do not prevent sweating.

They are typically alcohol-based and make your skin more acidic, which reduces its appeal to bacteria. Deodorants often include fragrance scents to cover up odors.

Fortunately, the majority of products available today are combination antiperspirants and deodorants, which address both perspiration and odor.

Most people use theirs first thing in the morning, but this can not only reduce the effectiveness of your antiperspirant, but also damage your clothing.

"Apply your antiperspirant before going to bed at night. It is more effective when used at night (refer to the information above), and your morning attire will not be affected," the team explained.

If you tend to sweat a lot, you may feel inclined to wear multiple layers.

Nevertheless, the professionals claim that a minimal layer is sufficient.

"Apply just a thin layer of antiperspirant," they recommended.

Swipe up once and swipe down once is sufficient, and there will be no excess to transfer onto your clothing.

If the quantity of sweat you generate is leading to embarrassment, fortunately there are multiple actions you can take.

In addition to using your antiperspirant at night, consider trimming or shaping your underarm hair so the product can effectively contact your skin.

"Trimming hair also stops sweat and oil from accumulating and reduces the surfaces where bacteria and sweat can interact," explained the International Hyperhidrosis Society.

There are also various medical options available to reduce sweating, which your physician can discuss with you.

Nevertheless, it's advisable to attempt to identify the underlying reason for your perspiration.

"Control your stress and understand how to manage it in order to avoid or reduce stress-related sweating from the start," the specialists mentioned.
