Rupert Grinthas contacted Alastair Stout, who will portray the new Ron Weasley inHBO’s TV adaptation of Harry Potter.
A 37-year-old father of two was seen in the northLondon’s Highgate ChristmasThe lights came on over the weekend, highlighting his iconic portrayal of Ron, one of Harry Potter's closest friends, across all eight films spanning a decade from 2000.
Rupert, just 11 years old, was cast with Daniel Radcliffe (who played Harry Potter) and Emma Watson (who portrayed Hermione Granger), and the three of them became globally renowned as the most brilliant, courageous, and defiant trio from Hogwarts.
Although the three remain the unofficial representatives of the franchise, the new HBO television series has justbring a new group of actors to play the young sorcerers and witchesin Alastair, Arabella Stanton, portrayed asHermione Granger, and Dominic McLaughlin as the main characterHarry Potter.
Following Daniel, 36, who disclosed that he sent Dominic a letter expressing his best wishes for his on-screen journey, Rupert has now shared that he also contacted Alastair.
"I composed a letter to him prior to the beginning, symbolically passing the torch," he mentioned in an interview with theBBCat the Christmas illumination ceremony.
"It was genuinely wishing him the best with it. I had a lot of enjoyment entering this world, and I hope he has the same journey," he stated.
Speaking of his perspective on the series –which has not been without debate– Rupert remarked, "I believe it's fantastic that it's something entirely new. It will have its own identity, and I think that will be enjoyable."
When asked if he is tired of living in the large shadow of his role as Ron, Rupert responded with 'absolutely not' and shared that he truly enjoys it.
"It holds a very profound significance for many people of my generation, and even more so for those discovering it now. It's wonderful. It fills me with a lot of pride. It was an enormous achievement," he said.
I don't believe I'll ever fully emerge from his shadow, but I'm okay with that.
Other actors featured in the new HBO series are John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Warwick Davies returning as Professor Flitwick, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.
Filming is currently in progress, with the first part anticipated to come out in 2027.
Asked if he would come back to the series like Tom Felton, the actor who played Draco Malfoy – who iscurrently on Broadway As the adult Slytherin – Rupert stated that although he won't say never at the moment, he is enjoying 'stepping out of the world'.
After taking on the role of Ron, a lifelong dream for Rupert who had been a fan of the books prior to getting the part, the actor has remained less in the spotlight compared to his fellow Potter actors, appearing in a few TV shows and movies such as Servant, Knock at the Cabin, Snatch, and Sick Note.
Rupert chose not to respond to theJK Rowlingrow, which has witnessed the author of the magical universe face criticism from Harry Potter enthusiasts, leading some to boycott the series, foropinions she has shared regarding transgender rights.
The writer has had public conflicts with Emma Watson – whom she labeled 'ignorant' – and Daniel Radcliffe, with Rowling stating she would 'never forgive' him after he criticized her opinions.
In 2020, Rupert separated himself from his fellow actors when Rowling expressed opinions regarding the transgender community.
In a declaration, the performer stated: 'I strongly support the transgender community.'
'Trans women are women. Trans men are men. Everyone deserves to live with love and without being judged,' he added.
Elsewhere, Keira Knightly recently apologisedfollowing her role in the seven-part Audible version of Harry Potter.
Asked about her choice to participate in the Audible series, the actress from Love, Actually mentioned she was 'not aware' that Potter fans have been protesting the franchise in support of the transgender community.
"I wasn't aware of that, no," Knightley said in a new interview withDecider.
She added, "I'm truly sorry. I believe we're all in a phase where we'll need to learn how to coexist, don't you think?"
And each of us holds distinct viewpoints. I hope we are all able to find respect.
