Minister of Education Joseph Nsengimana informed high school graduates from the Imbuto Foundation's Edified Generation Scholarship Programme that they are at the core of Rwanda's development goals and must continue to uphold the nation's cultural values, unity, and vision. He conveyed this message on Saturday, November 22, as the second group of Itorero "Imbuto Zitoshye" completed their week-long civic and values-based training at the National Ubutore Development Centre in Nkumba, Burera District. The Itorero was organized by the Imbuto Foundation in partnership with the Ministry of National Unity and Civic Engagement (MINUBUMWE). A total of 131 graduates participated in the program, which focused on Rwandan history, culture, civic engagement, adolescent health, mental well-being, responsible use of social media, and the values that define desirable youth in Rwanda. You have shown confidence that you are the generation our country can depend on to build the Rwanda we all desire,” he said. “Keep going down this path. It will open up opportunities for you and allow you to serve your country with dignity.” He reminded them of the expectations placed on young citizens in Rwanda, encouraging them to maintain good behavior, work hard, and avoid habits that could harm their future. He emphasized the importance of loving and serving the country, studying diligently and applying the knowledge they have gained, being confident and disciplined, avoiding drugs and destructive behaviors, and embracing technology and global opportunities. Aligning with Rwanda’s Vision 2050 He further mentioned that the Ministry of Education is increasing efforts to improve the quality of education, equip students with skills that make them employable, and expand technology and AI instruction in schools. “We will keep supporting programs that develop knowledgeable, courageous youth grounded in Rwandan cultural values, young people who will help create a stable Rwanda in line with Vision 2050,” he stated. Representing his peers, Valantin Ngamije Irakoze said the training enhanced their understanding of Rwanda's history, unity, cultural identity, and their responsibilities as young citizens. The graduates also pledged to volunteer, promote reproductive health awareness, embrace the 'Ndi Umunyarwanda spirit,' and contribute to national development. Elodie Shami, Director General of the Imbuto Foundation, praised MINUBUMWE and all partners involved in the program. She encouraged the youth to make choices guided by purpose and vision. “What you have learned here gives you a stronger foundation for making meaningful decisions,” she said. “Live purposefully and make the most of the opportunities you have.” The week-long Itorero aimed to instill cultural values, strengthen national identity, and empower young people to understand their role in achieving Rwanda's long-term aspirations. As the graduates move on to the next stage of their lives, joining universities and other higher education institutions, the minister reminded them that Rwanda has high expectations for them. “Study hard, remain honest, and avoid anything that could jeopardize your future,” he said. “Your country counts on you.”
