The governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has pledged the safety of residents amid rising banditry in nearby states, praising security agencies and top military officials for their vigilance and measures implemented to safeguard the state.
In a statement released by his representative, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the governor also expressed gratitude to the people of Osun for their backing and reaffirmed his dedication to continuing efforts in education, health, infrastructure, ICT, agriculture, cooperative growth, sports, water supply, and security.
Dealing with public worries regarding safety, Governor Adeleke mentioned that multiple discussions have taken place in recent weeks to stop bandits from entering the state. He noted that a joint strategy has been active for the last three weeks.
He commended the Police Commissioner, the Director of State Security (DSS), the Army Chief, the Head of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other organizations for their teamwork, noting that talks with leaders in border areas took place to enhance awareness and improve response capabilities.
He stated that the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of the DSS, the Chief of Defence Staff, and the Commandant General of the NSCDC have all focused specifically on Osun.
He urged inhabitants to remain vigilant and notify authorities of any unusual behavior.
He stated: "Security measures are being implemented in key areas of interest throughout the state. The intelligence sector already has a comprehensive understanding of security risks or other issues in Osun. We cannot fail to praise the DSS for apprehending prominent terrorists and dismantling their networks in Osun."
Our intelligence agencies are fully aware of the circumstances. There's no need for alarm. My sole request to everyone is to share reliable information and report any unusual activities within our community. Our local watch groups, hunting associations, and the Amotekun security services are expected to collaborate closely with the police to enhance the safety and protection of our citizens.
The governor instructed Amotekun to cooperate with the police and other organizations, stating that "the local security service should maintain close coordination with the primary security agencies and others. We need to operate within established procedures to protect our citizens from bandits and terrorists."
Regarding the local government matter, he stated that interested parties are waiting for the Supreme Court's ruling and emphasized that "we must continue to abide by the law since we are all determined not to take justice into our own hands."
Commenting on the circumstances within the state court system, he stated his belief that it will address its internal issues and mentioned that, as governor, he will not get involved.
He pledged to residents that administration is proceeding without issues, highlighting recent advancements in the digital sector, economic aid initiatives, employee well-being, and upgrades to infrastructure.
The governor remarked in the statement, 'I value the strong support from the people of Osun for our Administration. Your prayers and flood of encouraging messages boost our determination to remain steadfast despite difficulties. We will continue to work alongside the people to provide effective governance and democratic benefits.'
