A recent road incident involving the contentious entertainer DJ Chicken in Lekki, Lagos, has brought renewed attention to concerns about his driving habits.
Footage from the location revealed his car was severely damaged, with onlookers expressing disbelief at what some Nigerians on social media have called a history of aggressive and careless driving. This event joins a series of accidents connected to DJ Chicken in Ogun and Lagos States over the past two months.
A post shared on X on Saturday by a user known as Chief Ayodele Afolabi (Otun Bashorun) urged officials to immediately ban DJ Chicken from operating a vehicle, highlighting growing dangers to public safety.
"I want to convey my significant worry about the repeated events involving the person widely recognized as DJ Chicken. In the last two months, he has been part of at least three major traffic collisions, each presenting a severe threat to the public," Afolabi stated.
Recently, a life-threatening event happened in Sagamu, resulting in a woman being seriously injured. Just yesterday, another concerning incident occurred on Kelly Street, where he almost hit several people. Fortunately, due to pure luck and the help of a roadside gutter, a major tragedy was prevented, as the vehicle involved was almost entirely damaged.
Afolabi emphasized that the issue has gone past online anger and called for immediate regulatory action:
Considering this concerning trend of careless actions, I firmly believe that DJ Chicken should be instantly banned from driving any vehicle in any area of the country until further notice. This step is essential to protect the lives of ordinary people and avoid additional disasters.
I urge the relevant officials to address this issue with the importance it requires and to implement immediate measures for the sake of public security.
Another X user, Ayodele Balogun, who goes by #lordfizzle0331, echoed the demand for stronger measures, stating, "I hope the authorities will make the correct decision before he ends up taking someone's life or causing serious harm. But the Nigeria we know won't take action until this unstable individual kills someone on the road."
Ayọ̀ọlá, who tweets under the handle #Handyleema, stated, "How many accidents must a person have before we recognize him as a risk on the road? Please, let him stop driving before busy streets become crime scenes. In a functioning country, his driving license would have already been taken away."
His driver's license should not only be taken away, assuming he has one, but he should also be permanently prohibited from driving, arrested, and charged with endangering public safety. Uzoamaka, who identifies as #moadelekan, demanded permanent measures.
OMO AKIN $NODEPAY, who writes under the name #MorakinyoIdris, emphasized the urgency, stating, "Honestly, this is a reasonable action. Three major accidents within two months is not 'bad luck'—it's a clear threat to the public. Preventing him from driving isn't a punishment, it's safeguarding others on the road. It's no longer about fame or popularity. Anyone with such a record of incidents should be removed from the roads right away."
Human lives are in danger. Let the officials take immediate action. At this stage, it's no longer just an 'incident,' but a recurring issue. If the system doesn't stop him from driving right now, they're simply anticipating a more severe disaster. Safety of the public comes first.
The recent accident has sparked widespread conversations across the country about the responsibility of celebrities, road safety measures, and the necessity of stronger enforcement to avoid future occurrences.
