On Tuesday, President Yoweri Museveni presented the National Resistance Movement (NRM)'s 2026-2031 plan to voters in Buyende District, encouraging locals to support the party's nominees as he highlighted current government efforts in infrastructure, education, and healthcare.
The President was joined by the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Kataaha Museveni, who initiated the gathering by urging for national unity and the preservation of the peace that Uganda has experienced under the NRM.
Madam Janet mentioned that it has been her long-standing wish for Ugandans to continue protecting the nation's unity and stability.
She pointed out that Uganda's challenging history serves as a reminder to its people of the importance of safeguarding the achievements realized during the NRM administration.
"Uganda endured for many years, but through God's mercy, He united us and brought back peace and harmony," she stated, urging all Ugandans of voting age to participate on election day and back the NRM leadership.
Our kids should be raised in a nation that offers freedom and tranquility to all households.
President Museveni expressed gratitude to the residents for their active participation and mentioned that the NRM's continued existence stems from a tradition of "hardworking and resolute individuals."
He mentioned that the party's 40 years of leadership have enabled it to establish several crucial "matofali"—or foundational elements—of Uganda's progress, with peace and security serving as the core.
He emphasized the defeat of rebel factions and armed criminals, stating that NRM has established robust national institutions—the UPDF, Parliament, the Judiciary, the civil service, and the Police—which remain committed to upholding stability.
Museveni mentioned development as the second key focus of the party's plan, highlighting advancements in economic and social infrastructure.
Buyende District is home to 92 government-run primary schools, compared to 73 parishes, with 36 of those parishes still without a government school. He mentioned that the government plans to streamline the distribution to ensure equitable access. Additionally, the district's six government secondary schools will be expanded to achieve the goal of one school per subcounty.
Regarding health facilities, Museveni mentioned that the plan involves upgrading Kampul and Nkone Health Centre IIs to Health Centre IIIs, as well as building new HC IIIs in Gumpi, Buyanja, and other under-resourced sub-counties.
Museveni also re-emphasized his long-standing stance on generating wealth, highlighting that progress should lead to financial well-being for families.
He brought to mind the four-acre model outlined in the 1996 NRM manifesto, encouraging households to embrace businesses that produce revenue.
The leader stated that the NRM's platform for 2026-2031 aims to build on achievements in peace, infrastructure development, and economic growth, and urged residents of Buyende to support the party with another term to finish current initiatives.
The First National Vice Chairperson of NRM, Al-Hajji Moses Kigongo, called on party members to uphold discipline and solidarity as the nation prepares for the 2026 general elections.
Kigongo stated that internal unity is crucial for an effective campaign and highlighted the importance of widespread mobilization to secure victory for the NRM "from top to bottom."
"It is essential that we maintain discipline, collaborate effectively, and rally our community in each village to ensure the NRM achieves success at every level," he stated.
Moses Magogo, the NRM representative in Buyende and the Member of Parliament for Budiope East, praised the President for the numerous development projects in the district and the Busoga sub-region.
