Insecurity: Celebrities Urge Tinubu to Halt Violence

In the wake of a new surge in killings, large-scale kidnappings, and brutal attacks spreading through Kebbi, Niger, and other states, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his military leaders are encountering an extraordinary wave of public anger.

The leading entertainers, activists, and public personalities in Nigeria have launched harsh criticisms against the government, alleging that it has neglected its fundamental responsibility to safeguard the people.

New fury arises after another set of schoolchildren are taken from northern areas, a heartbreaking event that many Nigerians view as a grim, repeated national tradition.

Hundreds of families are mourning the death of their loved ones, while others are suffering in fear, waiting for any information about their missing relatives. In this context, opponents claim that the President's previous assurances to put an end to terrorism and robbery now sound empty.

The 2023 campaign of Tinubu pledged to "end insecurity firmly" is becoming one of the most closely examined commitments in Nigeria's recent political landscape.

After two years in office, cases of banditry, abductions, and terrorist attacks have increased instead of decreased, causing people to feel scared and upset. For numerous individuals, their tolerance has reached an end, and their confidence in the government's ability to ensure their safety is at a historic low.

Skitmaker and comedy star, Taoma, stated that Nigerians now perceive themselves as "just numbers" in a nation where casualty figures have taken the place of stories about advancement. "100 today, 23 tomorrow. No justice."

No responsibility. No real steps," she expressed sorrowfully. She criticized the government for providing sympathy, speeches, and panels rather than genuine safety and outcomes.

Taoma asked why a country dealing with the same security issue for more than 15 years continues to "go in circles."

She insisted on understanding why criminals remain untraceable, terror groups are not dismantled, and neighborhoods are not safeguarded. "Each day starts with a new tragic tale," she remarked. "Nigerians deserve a leadership that values human lives beyond mere numbers."

Music producer and label owner, Don Jazzy, expressed the same view, criticizing the authorities for their biased effectiveness. "During EndSARS, it was simple to get police and soldiers to halt peaceful demonstrators. WHY CAN THESE BAD PEOPLE BE STOPPED?" he questioned.

TV presenter, Frank Edoho, also commented, calling the government's silence on repeated abductions "a complete embarrassment."

He observed the contradiction of security forces acting with accuracy when raiding entertainment spots such as Pretty Mike’s club, but not showing the same speed when schoolgirls are taken from their classrooms.

Nollywood actor Femi Adebayo urged for a critical review of Nigeria's security approach, expressing concern that the current state had worsened to an unacceptable level. "We need to enhance our security measures and tactics," he stated. "Nigeria should be better than this."

Veteran actress Kate Henshaw offered one of the most heartfelt responses, criticizing the killing of civilians in their homes and places of worship. "People should not be treated as targets," she stated. "We require more than just sympathy. The threat is evident, immediate, and impossible to overlook."

An activist comedian named Mr Macaroni directly targeted the President, reminding him of his own well-known statement that "any president who cannot protect the people is incompetent." In a fierce statement, he said: "Every school child who has been taken is due to your failure. The blood of Nigerians being lost is on your shoulders."

Rapper and cultural icon Phyno joined the growing anger, criticizing the government for offering "condolences and empty words without any real action." He highlighted that insecurity has become so common that "people are just waiting to find out who will be next." His statement reflected the widespread sense of hopelessness in many communities, where people believe the government is either unable or unwilling to address the issue.

Singer-comedian Nasboi expressed his sorrow, stating that Nigerians have become accustomed to facing hunger and difficulties, yet security should never be a boundary every citizen is forced to cross. "We can cope with hunger," he mentioned. "But this lack of safety is overwhelming. What can we do when the government clearly doesn't value our lives?"

Rapper and human rights activist Falz took it a step further, demanding President Tinubu's resignation. "You have demonstrated your refusal to safeguard the lives and possessions of our citizens, even though you once pretended to care. RESIGN NOW!" he stated, criticizing the government for standing by as the nation deteriorates.

Amid rising public frustration and a swift decline in trust towards government security bodies, President Tinubu and his military leaders could be encountering their most critical test.

Stars have realized that the country is no longer interested in speeches; it expects outcomes.
