The Gambia branch of Africa Missions Global has introduced an AI Education Application aimed at helping students in The Gambia begin their journey into AI learning. As part of this initiative, 1000 students from all schools throughout The Gambia have been given the chance to enroll in the course, which is sponsored by Africa Missions Global (AMG).
The introduction of the AI Education App, created in collaboration with the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education of The Gambia and additional partners, occurred on Saturday at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre in Bijilo.
The event also featured an award ceremony for an AI-Enhanced Book Writing Contest, which included participants from Primary and Secondary Education levels organized by AMG.
The introduction of the AI initiative, titled The Gambia Digital Leap: Empowering Learning and Careers through AI, was attended by Vice President Mohammed B.S. Jallow, who was represented by Defence Minister Baboucarr Ismaila Joof. The event also saw the participation of representatives and Permanent Secretaries from the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, the Youth Ministry, and notable figures from Africa Missions Global in Africa and the Americas.
"Today, we honor innovation, imagination, and collaboration in the pursuit of education and national progress," stated Dr Sesan Akinnawo, Regional Coordinator of AMG West Coast 3.
Africa Missions Global, led by the motivating guidance of Dr Folu Adeboye, aims to provide assistance, optimism, and recovery to countries around the world. With Vision 2033 - Horizon 2033 as its direction, AMG is dedicated to impacting the lives of at least 100 million people globally through long-term education, health care, economic opportunities, and empowerment programs.
Our objective is straightforward: to develop individuals and revitalize communities, supporting Africa's ascent via strategic initiatives that foster both intellectual and spiritual growth," said Dr. Akinnawo, adding, "In The Gambia, Africa Missions Global has consistently carried out this worldwide mission through tangible efforts that address local requirements.
During the last few years, we have participated in educational support efforts -- supplying learning resources and information and communication technology tools to teachers in public schools; health outreach activities -- offering free sanitary hygiene kits to girls in schools and providing them with guidance; and skill development and empowerment programs -- assisting young individuals and women in gaining long-term sources of income.
The introduction of the AI Education Application represented another significant achievement in their support for The Gambia, according to the Regional Coordinator.
Digital transformation should empower all Gambians—by broadening opportunities, enhancing governance, and tapping into the creativity and productive capabilities of Gambian youth and communities throughout the nation, said Defence Minister Baboucarr Ismaila Joof, during the launch of the Application.
Emphasizing the Gambia government's strong national dedication to digital progress, Minister Joof stated: "With the guidance of President Adama Barrow, the Government of The Gambia reaffirms its strongest political commitment to speeding up our digital transformation and equipping our citizens to succeed in the knowledge, digital, and AI-driven economy."
He emphasized the measures the government has implemented to enhance national capabilities and bridge the digital gap, including the formation of the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, the enhancement of the University of The Gambia, and the founding of new national universities. The Minister also pointed out The Gambia's growing international influence in digital and AI governance, holding the position of Chair of the UN Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD) and other significant roles in digital governance.
He also valued AMG's dedication to The Gambia, stating, "Your efforts—such as AI training for Gambian teachers, the The Gambia Digital Leap project, community education campaigns, and digital learning tools—show the finest principles of collaboration, empathy, and support."
Awards consisting of trophies and cash prizes were also presented to five schools that won the AI-Assisted Book Writing Competition, which featured 50 schools and 100 students. The top-performing institutions were St Peter's Technical Junior and Senior Secondary School (1st), Future Generation Junior and Senior Secondary School (2nd), Ndow's Comprehensive Junior & Senior Secondary School (3rd), Deeper Life School (4th), and Banjulinding Senior and Upper Basic School (5th).
Speeches highlighting the significance of the digital era and the role of AI in enhancing education and professional opportunities, along with discussions on the service and Horizon 2033 initiative of AMG, were made by representatives including Mrs. Bukola Oguntibeju, CEO of AMG; Dr. and Mrs. Awobajo from Redeemers University of North America; and Dr. Fola Ojuola and Mr. Njowo from Africa Missions Global in The Americas.
